Hodesh, owner of Downtown Home and Garden, said he decided to donate space to The Brides&8217; Project because it seemed like it was something that fit with the Ann Arbor community.

The Brides&8217; Project, which is located in a donated space at 208 W. Liberty St. and run by an organization calledCancer Support Community of Ann Arbor, sells a selection of discounted used or new wedding dresses that have been donated.

Hiltz said the dresses are priced anywhere from $50 to $1,250, and the salon has several designer gowns.

A new volunteer-based bridal salon,The Brides&8217; Project, opened in downtown Ann Arbor on Friday with a mission to raise money for a local cancer support organization.

Volunteers will run the salon, and Sluymers said The Brides&8217; Project leadership team has already trained 35 people.

&8220;I thought this project was nice and I felt like we could have an impact on local milies chinese jade,&8221; he said. &8220;I also liked their idea of offering people an opportunity to buy previously used wedding dresses. This makes all the sense in the world.&8221;

Monique Sluymers, co-chair of The Brides&8217; Project tory burch flats, said the idea for the salon came from asimilar project by the same name in Toronto that was founded by HeNew discounted bridal shop in downtown Ann Arbor b Wedding Dreslen Sweet in 2005.

&8220;I thought this looked like a great idea,&8221; she said. &8220;It&8217;s a great alternative to the traditional wedding in that these are recycled drWedding Dressesesses. So it appealed to me from an environmental aspect, but also the ct that all the money goes to cancer support.&8221;

Sluymers said she thought Ann Arbor would be a perfect place to spearhead a project of this type, so she contacted Barb Hiltz, executive director of the Cancer Support Community, to form a partnership.

Hiltz said The Brides&8217; Project salon, which will be open by appointment-only Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, has received about – dresses in a variety of sizes and styles.

&8220;These dresses are coming in from all over the United States,&8221; Sluymers said. &8220;Brides are deciding to donate their dresses and give to the organization rather than having them sit in the closet.&8221;

Mark Hodesh, owner of Ann Arbor&8217;sDowntown Home and Garden, donated free space in his building on West Liberty Street to The Brides&8217; Project. The rest of the building is used as a kitchen for the food vendors that operate at HodeshsMark&8217;s Carts.

THE Salvation Army thrift shop in Werribee has hundreds of gorgeous wedding and deb gowns available for girls searching for their dream dress.

Some date from the 1960s, so I suppose you could say some are vintage. Some are ivory, some are white, some are lacy and there are some pearly ones, she said.

People come into the shop and look, we say weve got more out the back and we bring them out and they go, Wow, she said.

Some have price tags of $2000 and over on them. Some of the beading on them is just beautiful.

The thrift stores manager Sue said the dresses came from a generous donor gold jewelry, who previously owned wedding gown businesses.

Were hoping to see people get good use out of them and good value out of them.

Wyndham City Salvation Army operations manager Terry Brookshaw said more than 200 dresses were recently donated to the store by an anonymous philanthropist.
