Benjamin Norman for The New York TimesGiants left tackle Will Beatty and his fiance, Rebecca Helwig, are letting professionals choreograph their first dance.
An N.F.L. locker room is a temple of masculinity. There are jock straps on the floor. Helmets hung on hooks. Shoulder pads resting on shelves, with ribbons of dried-out sweat running along the seams.
Will Beatty, who is responsible for protecting Eli Mannings blind side, acknowledged that dancing is not really my thing.
One day this month, however, Giants left tackle Will Beatty stood amid the plentiful — and pungent — layers of testosterone and, while teammates answered pointed questions about run blocking and pass protections, spoke intently about the rigors of ballroom dancing.
There are a lot of movements, Beatty said. The steps. Remembering it all, it’s tough, but I think I can do it.
He looked pleased. But then Da’Rel Scott walked by, overheard a snippet of the conversation and called out, in a singsong voice, Will is gettin’ maaaaarried!
Beatty scowled good-naturedly. This is what I’m dealing with around here,At Occupy Phila., doubly engaged Philadelphia Inqu. he said.
Beatty, a second-round draft pick of the Giants in 2009, met his fiancée, Rebecca Helwig, while they were both in college at Connecticut. Helwig was also an athlete,a field hockey standout,Perpetuum Nic and the couple got engaged this past June while on a mily vacation in Hawaii. SinWedding Planningce then, planning the wedding — scheduled for Feb. 11, the week after theSuper Bowl — has been a consuming task, one made only more challenging by the reality that Beatty is in the midst of the most important season of his career.
In an average year, becoming a starter who is responsible forprotecting quarterback Eli Manning’s blind side would be pressure enough. But Beatty — a hulking figure with dark glasses, cornrows and a kindly voice — has endured a persistent back injury as well as surgery Thursday to repair a detached retina that will keep him out of Monday’s game in New Orleans, all while attempting to create a flawless wedding day in his limited spare time.
One of Beatty’s teammates, long snapper Zak DeOssie, is engaged — his wedding is planned for this spring — and during the N.F.L. lockout this summer, DeOssie said he and his fiancée used a wedding planner to knock it all out at once.
We’re pretty much done, DeOssie said.
Beatty and Helwig, however, are not using a planner and unlike many future grooms, Beatty has no interest in avoiding any of the responsibilities. A meticulous scheduler — He just likes to know exactly how everything is going to go, Helwig said — Beatty wants a classic, memorable night.
I like to think in terms of themes, buy runescape gold sms. he said.
Consider the couple’s interaction with their florist. Initially, Beatty imagined a winter wonderland feel, lots of lights, candles and twinkly flowers.
But at one point during the meeting with the florist in New Jersey, Beatty was asked to step into the hallway so Helwig could describe her dress. Beatty has begged Helwig to show him the dress she got at Kleinfeld, but she has refused.
So I went outside for just a few minutes, Beatty said. That’s it. Just a few minutes.
When he returned Maple Story Mesos, the flower concept had changed. The florist had llen into an easy patter with Helwig, and it seemed as if the winter wonderland approach was no longer in play.
There could be an understated, classic vibe Support for MCX Gold Dec at Rs 28250: Kotak Commod, the florist was saying.Black magic roses would be a featured flower and the centerpieces would be dark, adding to the mood. It would be timeless, the florist said. Lustrous. Romantic. Helwig was nodding. She seemed intrigued.
Unlike many future grooms, who would have shrugged, and said Whatever you want, honey, or, perhaps, What is that going to cost? Beatty had a different reaction.
Wait, he said, staring at the florist. Are you saying this is going to be kind of gothic?
Beatty frowned. He thought it sounded too dark. Then he pointed at the centerpieces.
Look, he said, with the same confidence he might summon while critiquing a blocking formation. Do you have anything ina white birch?
Recalling the story over lunch recently, Helwig laughed.
He wants to be part of it all, she said. He’s always thoughtful. It’s why I love him so much.
With their team approach to the planning, Tuesdays have become the primary progress day for the couple. Generally an off-day for N.F.L. players, Beatty and Helwig — once she gets out of work as a food scientist — use it as a day to check in with different vendors. One Tuesday was for the caterer. Another was with the invitation designer.
